Hey fellas, my garage shop is 50 by 20, I have 8” block walls and 2×12 floor joist’s above. I plan on drywalling the ceiling. My question is; what can I use that will absorb sound inside the the shop so that noise will not travel too much to the outside. Do you have any tips for me? will acoustical glue on tiles help? Batt insulation before drywall?
Ant suggestions would be a big help,
Thank you, Lou

Soundstop board by Celotex.
The standard technique is drywall hung on resilient channel. Google on "resilient channel" to learn.
Fifty six long-haired large dogs.
A large distance is even more effective.
I insulated the ceiling of my basement shop as well as all the interior walls in the shop with fiberglass batting insulation. Installed a dropped ceiling of acoustic 2'x2' tiles for convenience and access. I have a 2HP Grizzley cyclone DC in an insulated closet right below the family room that runs most of the time when running the major power tools. My wife has no problems with the noise level and can watch TV just fine in the family room above the shop.
the folks at AVS Forum (home theater forum) talk alot about double drywall with Green Glue laminated between them. I've never used it, but the plots are impressive. Also, I'm unsure of the cost.
