I Am going to build a entertainment cabinet for a friend, She really likes the look of cherry but it might be a bit spendy as far as material cost. So does anyone have any recommendations on a wood that would have a similar color tone to your basic cherry with danish oil.

you can get really fairly close with alder...It takes stains very well...
You might consider jatoba. It is sometimes sold under the name Brazilian Cherry. It isn't cherry, but it is somewhat in the same color arena. In my lumber dealers, it costs about $4.5 per bd ft in 4/4, while cherry is more like $6.
