Kiln dried?
Sounds to me like the wood hasn't been fully kiln dried--it's reportedly very challenging to dry without checking and warping. The heat from the kiln drying process should have "set" the sap. If set, shellac would likely still be needed to prevent minor "bleed" through such as can occur around pine knots. But, if not properly dried, or only air dried as for construction lumber, I doubt that it would finish satisfactorily.
What application do you have in mind for this. I've never seen any personally, my info if basically from :

Steve, thanks for the info...I do know it has never been K.D...Just air dried in a big pile for a couple of years.
