I am building a Dresser and am adding some hand formed copper pieces. I would like to buff the copper, possible apply a verde gris finish, and then apply a protective finish. Would it make a difference if I was to just leave it buffed copper. Would there be a different finish for both? Thanks…greg.

If you want polished copper (what I assume from "buffed") you need to put a finish over it or it will naturally tarnish. Lacquer is commonly used.
I whole-heartedly agree.Regards
Jerry
Lacquer is a traditional finish for polished metals. Musical instruments such a trumpets are done in lacquer as well as guitar bodies. It is also a frequently used finish for woodworking. Lacquer dries very fast and is best sprayed. There are also some brushing lacquers, they have some additives to allow a little working time. Both are available either solvent or water based.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
