I am making a pantry for my daughter. The basic shell is melamine and I want to cover it with 1/4 oak plywood to keep the weight down. I was told that you can not glue melamine. If this is true any suggestions on how to secure the plywood to the melamine?

Just to be clear, are you building a box out of Melamine faced particle board that you want to then cover with the oak plywood?
John W.
yes, exactly
Hi chalky,
I think you would be better off making the whole thing from 3/4 oak ply. Your exposed parts will already be oak and you will keep the weight down considerably.
The weight and the cost would both probably be lower. There are not a whole lot of things on earth heavier than melamine and the cost of the melamine plus the 1/4 Oak ply would likely exceed the cost of 3/4 oak ply.
Good luck!
Thanks but its a little too late-I already have the melamine put together.
Hi Chalky ,
It's never too late ,,, there most certainly is glue formulated to glue Melamine . The best known brand name I know of is called Roo Glue .
It will bond Melamine to Melamine , plywood to Melamine or wood to Melamine or even wood to wood . It dries mostly clear .
For future projects of this nature there is a product made that has Oak veneer on one side and Melamine on the other side .
Any cabinet material supplier should have the glue as well as cabinet hardware suppliers and possibly anyplace that sells Melamine may have it as well .
