One holds ones nose higher in the air when one has a "commission".
Thank you, that's what I thought.DJK

Well, "another job" is where you plan for this 7-11 (or other urban cash machine) to have more money in the till than Fort Knox has gold, and 'commission' is what the judge and prosecutor call it, after you find out that the 7-11 didn't have all that much money, after all.

DJK,
I work in Washington, DC. You want to know the difference between a commission and just another job. We have lots of commissions in Washington. Some of them are Blue Ribbon commissions. Others are just plain commissions. I have never really heard the term "commission" defined, but from watching, I believe a commission is a group of people who sit around and think, and then make recommendations but don't have any responsibility to implement them, and no responsibility if someone else implements them and they don't work. Republicans and Democrats use commissions in an identical manner.
So what's "Just another job"? That is a position in which you have the responsibility to get something done.
Speaking of Democrats and Republicans (in a non-political way, of course) -- I heard someone ask what the difference between Democrat and Republican problems are. The answer was, "All of their problems take place between the sheets. With the Democrats, its between the bed sheets. With the Republicans, it's between the spreadsheets."
Enjoy.

Mel, that was classic, thanks, Pat
Pat,
Glad you enjoyed it. Around Washington, DC, humor is the last bastion of sanity. It's like a group of adults playing a never-ending game of "Lord of the Flies". The best description I ever heard was by Mark Twain, who said "Do you know the difference between Congress and Kindergarten? In Congress, there is no adult supervision."
If more politicians took up woodwork, it would be a better world. Enjoy, and thanks for the nice words.

Thanks to all. After 40+ years of this stuff it's being more clear.DJK
Time line allowed (? for creativity, of course) and $$$. Lots of $$$
Rough framing vs dovetail joints? Still more $$$

Same as the difference between a "client" and a "customer". ;)
DJK,
If you don't know the difference you should stick to "jobs".
