I am having problems with my Makita 14″ bandsaw ( yes, Makita did make and sell band saws in the ’80).
I am thinking of buying a 16-18″ quality bandsaw. Anyone out there is willing to share his/her experience and wisdom on the subject?
Thank you!

I've got the 18" Laguna and love it. I made the usual mistake of trying to go low price, got the Jet 14" saw with riser blocks, etc., and it wouldn't do any real work. This puppy is a pleasure. I decided to go with the 18" saw, rather than the 16" saw, because it's heavier and has more horse power. A few hundred dollars, when you're in this price range, doesn't matter much. I wanted something I wouldn't regret. And I was right.

I just recently got the Jet 16" bandsaw. It's a new design that matches the design of the 18". So far it's great. Search the threads here and you'll see some recent posts by me during my decision making process. I had a Delta 14" previously.
John: You could still probably get parts for your bandsaw from Makita. Call 1-800-4-MAKITA press option #2 and you will get the closest factory service to your location. I use to sell makita products and the bandsaw you have is a very good machine.
Good luck
My shop is considering the woodteck 20" or 24" saw. Boatyard, with mostly fiberglass customers but some wood work as a repair item. I personaly bought a delta 14 w/ block and have been able to get quite a bit done with it after a little tunning.(including resaw work). Anyone familiar with the above saws.
bought the 18" Jet this summer. I love it. It's my 1st so I don't have any experience with another one, but it works great for what I need.
big bob
I just did the band saw search and compare routine for a larger saw. (18-24")
I ended up with a Laguna 24" what an awesome machine! Good luck. I would look at their whole line if I were you.
Greg, I'm envious. I have the 18" Laguna and love it, and just couldn't think of how to sell my wife on the larger model. She already thinks I only buy the best (most expensive) and this wouldn've been one more battle. Enjoy that puppy.

Thank you to all for valuable advice and expert opinion.

John,
I always use the "bigger" equipment holds the work in a more stable position making my work enviroment safer. Works well when you need a power feeder also. My wife always worries about me cutting one of my fingers off. She does not handle blood well and if this should occur I am on my own. Keep at it and good luck!
