When to replace rollers for planer?
I have a older makita planer/jointer and it just doesn’t seem to feed as well as it used to. When do you replace roller for the power feed on the planer?
Cheers

Check the spring tension on the feed rollers. My planer has spring loaded lever arms and over time collect sawdust and chips under the arm so that doesn't apply sufficient pressure. I just have to lift up on the feed roller and blow it out with an air hose.

I've found that every 100' or so of wood passed through the planner will deposit some of the oil from the wood on the rollers. I raise the feeder and clean the rollers with mineral sprits. Just be careful with you do. If you accidently find the cutters, you'll end up with a sliced finger. (Been there done that) I also keep a good coat of wax on the bed.
Good luck, Len (Len's Custom Woodworking)
I had this same planer/jointer and it developed the same problem. You really need to tackle this because what will eventually happen is that the rollers will lose their ability to feed the material against the cutter head and the material will kick back causing the tension plate to pull back and ruin your $300 carbide blades.
I don't have that machine anymore.
