There seems to be a large number of drawer slides available in all mouning styles, self closing and not, slow closing and not, etc. But where do I find the design particulars (like how much space should I leave for the side mounted guides between the drawer and case, for instance) and how do I find out what kind a tools are availble for helpimng mount the slides? Thanks for helping.

I just look in the catalog from the supplier.
Most of the slides I've found are 1/2" thick.
Have you loked at the slide makers web site?

I'm sure other companies have
I'm sure other companies have similar info, but since I use Blum almost all the time I'm familiar with their specs. Aside from the printed technical manuals, you can get extensive info online. Just for instance -
http://www.blum.com/gb/en/01/30/20/index.php
and click on the catalog download.
