Where have I seen this type of Fixture???
Completely unrelated to woodworking, we had a need for a threaded rod type fixture and an image popped into my mind. Hey, I’ve seen something just like that.
But do you think I can find it? I have looked at so many things I am not sure if I just imagined the whole thing.
I am now thinking I may have seen it through woodworking. So if this looks remotely familiar, please chime in. The ultimate goal is to purchase components off the shelf and assemble. We only will manufacture if we have to.
Pictured is a quick and dirty CAD model from SolidWorks. Also pictured is a stock photo of the threaded posts I am trying to source. If you know of a source for these cross drilled posts, please advise. They seem to be mostly used in the control cable / marine industry. The closest woodworking item I came up with was an item from Veritas. (http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/page.aspx?p=63825&cat=1,41659)

The Mind Is Not Going
Woodworkers call them Barrel nuts. Used on ready to assemble furniture-

Thanks for the reply. Although my CAD model doesn't show, I specifically need the stepped shoulder section shown in the other image. A standard barrel nut / cross dowel such as used for bed-bolts or hand screws won't quite do what I need.
Thanks again, Daen
You don't mention the size/diameter you need, but similar items are pretty common in the Radio Controlled model industry.
Need a little bigger than that
I had come across that source as well. But I require something a little larger. 1/4-28 up to about 1/2-20 would be ideal.
I spotted another example this weekend - anyone with a DirectTV Slimline dish has seen a very similar mechanism.
Air Craft supply? Out of my relm but other sources . . .
I have my big Granger's catalog in the crawl space under the house but am about to eat dinner so I can't look in it yet but have you tried Grangers Industrial supply ?
Also Cutting Edge Indust sup.?
