I’m horrified by the level of obtrusive commercial posts that seem to be overwhelming the real intended content of the forum. Where are the moderators ? Commercial posting on inappropriate topics will kill my interest in this forum.

Different Rules
Some forums have clear rules about the identity of the members and of what material is suitable for posting. Even when there is 'disagreement' amont posters about a particular issue (tails first vs. pins first and such) it is carried on in a civil manner.
If some (commercial) posts, as we see them appearing regularly, are harmful to the spirit of Knots and are tolerated by the moderators, then maybe such harm is intended.
Best wishes,
Metod
Effective Moderators
There no longer is any effective moderation of these forums. I don't know why, but Fine Woodworking has given up managing these forums. So, almost all the knowledgeable participants have given up posting.
There are a number of active forums that are much better than this one.

I don't know about horrified but I am very disappointed to see the disconnect the web folks have regarding this site. It's difficult to believe the moderators are fellow woodworkers. This site has gone from the best to the worst. I'm glad the people who stayed continue to hang in and hopefully someone in the main office can revive this site to it's former ways.
Wake up in that office FWW !

Way too late for FWW to wake up to what Knots now is! Wasn't that many years that Knots was the best of the woodworking forums and now it is relegated to the bottom of the heap.
I check in from time to time, just to see if FWW takes the hint to change it, but alas, they don't.
So.........
I tried, but . . .
I tried to "hang in there" but have pretty much given up on FWW and Knots. I cancelled my print and online subscriptions, as well. If Taunton management and the editors don't care, why should I?
Ralph I was sure you would be last man (person) standing.
OK if you quit I quit .
if you are not already there be sure to sign up at Sawmill Creek.
That's where the FINE WWing is discussed.
To the person who could not get them to sign him up because his name was unique :
Be sure the name on your e-mail address and your real name that you must use in the chat room MATCH !
That seems to be important to them to varify that you are, indeed, a "coolguy".
I went to Sawmill Creek. They wanted my real name, so I gave it to them.
It's a Native name, Oasis Chucklenaskit.
They rejected it.
So apparently, they want a white community over there. And that makes it not my kind of place.
Saw Mill Creek
Jammer - don't be ignorant ; no site limits you by race, or color. I hope you were just looking to lighten things up here with some humor. If so - I'm laughing.
SA
I'm sure you are laughing.
I didn't use Jammer-- I used my name. They read it and rejected it.
I'm certain you find that funny.
Your words say that their site doesn't set limits by race. Their actions say otherwise, they don't recognize any name that doesn't sound "right" to them.
Given a conflict between actions and words, I always believe the actions. Anything else would be, well, ignorant.
Well, Don't Forget to Turn Out The Lights....
Jammer - You have proven your point well enough.
Don't go there. Stay right here where you are respected and honored and treated with fairness and equality by everyone.
Or is it ignored with fairness and equality? And are you now the only one?
So.......Who will it be that makes the LAST POST on this forum?
FWIW, I tried SMC a few years back (before the "real names" requirement), and didn't care for the administrative attitudes, even then.
It's like politics-- they have exactly what they want.
