Dear everyone,
I’m finally going to build my workbench and after much thought have decided to buy a pre-fab slab of hard maple for the main surface area. I am looking for something roughly 30″ by 84″ and will add skirt, etc. I would like something at least 2 inches thick. The grizzly slabs are thinner and the Lee Valley slabs are shorter. Any ideas where to purchase such a slab? Thanks.

Lumber Liquidators used to sell them
I picked mine up from Perfect Plank--3" thick in their "wildwood."
Local restaurant supply store.
If you want a really heavy duty top (and very heavy), call a bowling alley repair/rebuilder in your area.

call a bowling alley repair/rebuilder in your area..Yes BUT! I have used them.. I do not know how all are made but the ones I obtained were full of metal strips, whatever..Worked for my needs but I was not aware of how they were stuck together..
Mc Master-Carr has work bench tops reasonable. Boos & CO
Thanks for the input everyone. I will probably explore a couple of local options and, if no luck, turn to one of the national suppliers. Thanks again.

I bought mine from Lumber Liquidators. I think it cost me $180. It is 1 3/4" thick. I added an ash skirt and a vise. I actually cut mine down from 8' to 6' and used the cut-offs for cutting boards. I'm pretty sure the width was 25" but am not home now to check. Here is what they look like.

The Sam's Club near has one that's a little smaller than you specified for $200 with steel legs. It's 72 x 25 x 1-5/8".
Ikea has something nearly the same dimensions for about $99, made out of birch.RogerI'd rather be making cabinets and friends....
If you're anywhere near central Wisconsin, call Bennett Hardwoods. One of the owners manufactures them (really nice 1 1/2 inch maple butcher block or planks). Other woods are available. They have a large selection of a variety of woods.
[another instance where knowing the location of the OP would be helpful]
That being said, if you have a good hardwood supplier in your area, they might very well carry the glue-ups. Both of the HW suppliers I frequent have a good selection.
