I have a bookcase I’d like to finish with a blue to yellow sunburst
pattern. The yellow for most blonde shellacs is perfect, but it
doesn’t take blue dye all that well. I’d like to use water white
shellac for the blue tinted coats, but can’t find it in dry form.
I’ve tried the usual suspects (Garret Wade, Woodcraft, Lee Valley),
but to no avail. Does anyone know of mail order sources for
water white shellac flake ?
Thanks

Hi;
You should be able to find it at http://www.sinopia.com,an online and mailorder art supply business.
*Another shellac supply is:http://www.shellac.net/index.htmlPat offers a new shellac called 'platina' and claims it is as close to clear as you can get. He has a number of different varieties of shellac.David.
*You might also look at http://www.homesteadfinishing.com. Mr. Jewitt would no doubt be quite willing to describe his grades of shellac and very truthfully advise you as to their appropriateness.
*Liberon/Star offers a dewawed, extra light pale platinum blonde flake for $15.95/lb. Check 'em out at the following location: http://www.woodfinishsupply.com/ShellacPricing800.html
