I apologize if this has been covered before, however, I performed a search and could not find anything.
Does anyone know of a source for lumber samples? I am building a few pieces for my mother and would like to show her the actual wood, as opposed to pictures in a book or on the Internet. There are no local sources (other than the usual “box stores”), that I can find.
Thanks!

Lumberyards, cabinet shops, furniture repair places . . . anywhere that generates wood waste will likely let you have all the scrap you want. Bedient Organ Co is here and you can buy Honduras Mahogany offcuts for about 50 cents per pound. A friend with a cabinet shop stores his offcuts on pallets until he can get enough for an 18 wheeler to cart them off somewhere. He'd give you anything you wanted. Look around, there's places, you just haven't found them yet.
You are right! I have not look in all the right places yet... Just wanted to start here, which may be the best place!
Thank you for the direction. I will see if I can come up with anything local.

Woodcraft lists samples in their catalog, but a quick search on their website did not reveal it. You might request a catalog if you don't already have one.
