Can some of you give me some advise on which of the currently offered SCMS’s are the best? My brother has asked my advice and my knowledge of these tool is mostly hearsay and a bit dated. I Know when they first started to show up on jobsites, Hitachi was considered the best but there are so many more out there now. I see a lot of Dewalt saws in use but that might be because they are heavily marketed in my area[central Oregon coast]. As my bro lives in Long Beach Ca.,he could probably buy almost any brand with out having to pay for shipping. Any help on this;good+bad features, construction, and customer service experiences, would be greatly appreciated.

I am VERY happy with my DW-708 (DeWalt). I got it as a house warming present from my parents a while back. If you are left handed, then this one is definitely the way to go. A left handed buddy of mine threatens to steal it from me for that reason. Most saws are made for right-handed people and they are awkward to use with your left hand. It calibrates easily and I have only had to callibrate it once (whenit was new). If I remember right, I read a review in one of the wood mag (I don't think it was FWW) and it had the largest capacity of any 12" model. The only thing I wish it had was one of those cool laser sights. Not because I need it for speed, I just want one. Maybe because my degree is in lasers. Practicality actually won that arguement and I did not get one.
I have used it a lot and have had no problems (4 years old).
