Time to buy a belt sander. PC 4×24 or the Bosch 4×24? PC seems stouter but I only see the Bosch in rental centers. (I figure this means something). Don’t use one often but when I do it is for hours/days at a time. Taking paint off stair treads, cleaning up after the floor sander on hardwood flooring, recycling old lumber that I don’t want to risk running through a planer.
Dust collection important- I will hook up to a Fein Turbo III.
Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Bosch here too.
Who ever invented work didn't know how to fish....
Check out this Knots discussion: http://forums.taunton.com/tp-knots/messages/?msg=15242.1 for belt sanders. Porter-Cable is getting most of the votes. I have the PC 362VS 4"x24" and it has worked well for me, but I only use it sparingly. Hooking up to my Fein Turbo II is a noticeable improvement over just the dust bag. However, they are not exactly compatible so you might need some combination of stepped adaptor and flexible rubber sleeve and maybe even duct tape to make the dust collection work to your satisfaction. It is definitely woth it to get the graphite platen as well because the stock metal platen really builds up a lot of heat fast which reduces belt life.
ive used the ryobi 3x21 for years, had to replace it finally after scribing miles of countertops with 36 grit belts, liked the machine so much, i just bought the same again and fixed the old one as a spare
caulking is not a piece of trim
That is always the question isn't it? Bosch or PC? Well, if you are doing ANY work that is not horizontal, then the Bosch is the choice. If it is all horizontal, then it gets tougher. The Bosch probably is more refined and the dust collection is better, but for raw heft the PC is the choice. Judging from your stated purpose, I would think that the PC would serve you better.
Good Luck!
