OK Here you go again for probably the thousandth time… I need a new cabinet saw for my shop. I’m looking at the Griz 1023s @ 825.oo and the Craftsman prof. 10″ on sale at a store near you for 760.oo. There are a number of considerations here but I’ve heard good things about both. Sears is close and service is usually not a problem and of course the price. The Griz seems to have a good rep. and I’ve heard service is good too. Either of these saws would fit my needs for a long time if they are reliable. I don’t need to go for the big buck saw; I don’t use it that much, but I do need something that will cut true and accurate without continual messing around adjusting like my 30 year old sears 10″. You wouldn’t believe what I’ve been able to get that saw to do! But, I’m getting older and am really getting tired of screwing around with it. Also, I need to decide before the prices go up and sales end. Thanks for the help. Chuck

Both of those saws typically get favorable comments from users. The two are quite a bit different from each other. The Griz is modelled after a full blown 3hp saw with the massive trunnions similar to those found on Unisaws, General, PM, Jet, etc. It'll require 220v.
The Craftsman 22124 is a new offering that's a bit of a mix between a cabinet saw and a hybrid....kind of a "mini cab". The trunnions are cabinet style in that they're mounted to the cabinet, but are much lighter duty than the Griz's. It has an awesome fence, and many of the other benefits of a cabinet saw. The motor is 1-3/4hp and will run on a standard 110v circuit, or can be switched to 220. The early reports from users have been really good. The local support should have some appeal....
I went with the sears saw and I'm pleased. It went together with ease; everything where it was supposed to go. It has all the power I need for the work I do; occasional builtins and custom cabs. Its nice to have a saw you don't have to screw around with every time you use it and the fence is NICE! Thanks for the input. Chuck
Chuck,
Scotty is correct..you'd have to bump up to $1500 at Sears to compare with the Griz....
You do need to decide quick. The new prices are going up big-time. I was looking in one of the ww mags right before christmas, and it had a grizzly add on the inside cover with new prices. I think the 1023 is going up to 975(not 100% sure that was the price, but that does stick in my mind for some reason). I was in the same position a few months back. I went and looked at the sears and after looking at the specs (downloaded the 1023 manual), I decided on the Grizzly. It has tripple belts (sears has 1) and a 3hp motor. After talking to the folks here, and some soul searching, I went with the Grizzly. I got the 1023slx. It is an excellent saw. Mine has the Bessy style fence. It is very good and I have enjoyed it tremendously. There have been a lot of reviews of the craftsman recently and they have been positive. The top is solid and it has a Bessy fence. If you can get to a B&N or books a million and look at the mags and annual tool review editions (I can't remember which one), they have good things to say. I am happy with mine. If I had to do it over, I would still get the Grizzly. Here is my original post. Good luck on the decision. You have till friday if you want the current Grizzly price! I'm ordering a Horizontal boring machine to avoid the cost jump.

Bones,
Thanks for the feedback. I took the plunge and got the sears saw and after putting it all together I'm pleased with the setup, the alighnment of the extensions, the fence. It looks like it will meet my needs for years to come and I got the come to your home 3 yr. warranty which I can extend to 5 yr. if I want. It can be a daunting experience making a choice like this but the info available now online is amazing. Thanks again. Chuck
