Which cam first? the Stickley or the Morris?
I was lucky enough to find the time to go the Gustav Stickley exibit at the Dallas Museum of Art over the weekend. They had some original chairs there in a style that I had always contributed to W.Morris. But who is to credit for this design? Morris designed it Stickley mass produced?

William Morris designed his version first, then it went through a myriad of designs by different makers, including Stickley. Stickley had a number of different versions themselves (not counting the different Stickley factories).
So, the concept goes to Morris. The (probably) most popular and known version would be Stickley.

I seem to remember that William Morris had little to do with the design of the chair that bears his name. A half worked out sketch is a long way from a design, but no doubt someone will correct me.

I'm at the office so I can't check my books. Regardless of Morris' role, I know Stickley wasn't first. The design DID start in England.
