I have a PM 20″ lathe. Looking for advice on purchasing a chuck. I have a few questions:
Is there a chuck that can do large and small items or do I need to get 2 different chucks? Which one is the best – quality, versatility, function, etc? Good place to buy – best price with stock and good delivery? Steve Nearman

Hi there, looking for a good chuck? Nova, Oneway, Axminster there are probably a few more in the same range as these. Personally I bought a Oneway Stronghold for my itty bitty lathe as I will be moving up to something about 20-24". All of these manufactures have a chuck with accesory jaws that will let you turn anything from less than an inch to about 24". I'd suggest what I did. I looked at the outlets online so I had an idea about price range and what I probably needed then drove into the nearest town to and bought my chuck from a real live person I could talk to.
Good luck
Vern.

The original post was about 2 month ago. I just thought there was not many turners here. I have already purchased a chuck. As it happens it was a stronghold. I wanted to do large items as well as small. For the big stuff the stronghold seamed to be the most logical choice.
The blank for this bowl was 19" X 20" and weight over 200 lbs. (green red oak). Needed my wife to help me mount it on the lathe.

I also have the Oneway, Stronghold and like it very much. There are a big variety of attachments to go with it.
