Howdy,
I have 11 boards of different wood for a table top. My question is: which is the best way to join them edge-to-edge: dowels, biscuits, tongue & groove?
Thank you,
Mikaol Daley

Biscuits for me.
They are easy to use and quick. the allow vertical registration and are highly tolerant of error. There is a little wiggle room.
Tongue and groove would be stronger but does not look as good from the ends.
I would question whether there is any need for any joint structurally as the glue is doing all the work. Has anyone seen any studies comparing edge joint techniques?
I just rip a clean edge on the boards and edge glue them, right off the table saw. I've never had a glue joint fail. Dowels, biscuits, or any other kind of fasteners are just not necessary.
Some say they like biscuits etc to help align the boards during glue up. I find they hinder more than help. If a butt joint is off, you can straighten it and make it perfectly flush during glue up. If a dowel, biscui t or what have you is off, the glue up will be off.
I agree with reply #2. I've never seen the logic in gluing edge joints using biscuits or dowels. They just get in the way and do not contribute to the strength of the joint. Tongue and groove are good but fussy to get it right.
Edge joining for me. If your edges are clean and true, you’ll have no issues with edge joining. If you decide to go tongue and grove, just use bread board ends.
I am also for just edge joining. dowels, biscuits and dominos can telegraph to the surface. The pva type glues are stronger than the wood. Fine wood Working has some very good articles on glues.
