WHich Double Sided Tape???
What is the best tape to use for attaching a template to a piece of wood for flush trimming. I tried double sided carpet tape, but it seems to be too strong and always leaves a sticky residue. The only other things that most home centers sell is that cheap double sided tape for mounting pictures and the like.
Any suggestions???

I use the carpet tape that is cloth reinforced. It sticks very well. I use very small pieces (1/4 x 2") strips and that seems to help when it's time to remove.
I like the cloth as well. The ones with a plastic film core are worthless, and with the woven plastic mesh is not too good either. There is some with woven fiberglass which is fair, but the last roll that I got, I couldn't get the vellum off of the other side.
I have a little tip for whomever likes using this product. I have a hard time getting the paper started when I lay a strip down if I cut it all of the way across after smoothing it down, so whenever I am applying it, I stick the end down, and stretch out however much I need, then cut with the point of a knife all the way across except for about
1/8", then stretch that little bit which breaks the paper, and releases it from the tape.
With the knife blade, it is then easy to slip under that corner of the paper to start lifting it off. I then finish cutting the last little bit of tape after I get the paper folded back.
Nice tip Keith, thanks!
I just use the double sided masking type with the paper cover, A little goes a long way. I even use it for faceplate turning on the lathe. Sounds scarry but it really holds with no break-aways YET ! But it will probably happen eventually.

I too use the double side carpet tape. But like others have said, use small pieces.
To get two pieces apart, I use a 5-in-1 tool, or one of those prybars with a thin blade.
