I just purchased the Leigh FMT jig. It calls for use of a plunge router. I have done some research on the various routers out there. Most of the name brands seem pretty good, with minor compromises associated with each one. My question is, has anybody had any experience actually using this jig? Any comments about a particular router when used with this jig? I will be primarily be making doors (oak) and chairs(various woods).
Thanks for any and all input.

I would ask Leigh what router they use when they demo the project. They porbably want good rsults with minimum effort.

I got that recently. You are going to LOVE that jig. I use a Dewalt 621 with it. It is my favorite plunge router because of its lightly loaded springs, easy locking knob and good hand feel. Thinking back on the set up instructions, I think that most mainstream routers will work. Give yourself a good half hour to 40 minutes to set the router ( a one time thing). One bit of advise is to buy the full set of inserts - it really makes a diference to what you can do with it. The dust control on this jig is not the best however.

Demo's at the local Wood Working Show, Leigh was utilizing the 3 1/4 hp Bosch plunge router (model 1619 EVS).. Seemed like hp overkill to me.. I presently have the plunge base from the Porter Cable 694VK mounted and to tell you the truth the 1 3/4 router has plenty of power but I don't think the plunge mechanism from this combo set is accurate enough so a Dewalt DW 621 is slated to be mounted in the FMT..
Nice Jig! Think......Bosch.

Thanks to all who replied. I did see that Leigh used a Bosch in all their advertising. I've had good luck with other Bosch routers, not to mention jig saws, sanders and drills. However, I read many fine (pardon the pun) reviews of the Fein router. I went to a local dealer and was able to actually put my hands on the router and get a feel for it. It was actually cheaper than the comparable Bosch. (both are rated at 3.25hp)So, I bought the Fein. So far, so good.
As to the jig, appears to be very well made, and the instructions are easy to follow. Still practising on scrap to get the fit right where I want it. I can see where this will make cutting lots of M&Ts very easy and quick.
Thanks.

So how do you like your Fein router now after some use?
I'm planning on a new shop - thought I'd put the Fein in a router table and get a D-handle bosch for right-side up work. Although some people have 6+ routers, maybe these 2 will work?
Thank for you thoughts,
