Which Sanding Tool(s) For Finish Sanding Where ROS Won’t Reach
I’m repairing/refinishing an old piece of Maple furniture. I have previous posts with gluing and old finish removal questions. I’m having good luck removing the old finish with a Random Orbital Sander. But it doesn’t get into the corners. Other than hand sanding what tool(s) would work for me….orbital sander, detail sander, ocsillating multitool with detail sanding head?
Thank You

For the inaccessible corner, nooks and crannies, scrapers are generally the best option. You can buy scrapers that are small, with short edges and points (rectangular and triangular) with handles, allowing you to poke and scrape into the most awkward recesses.
However, having collected numerous chisels of various widths, including 1/16" - as well as some skew and cranked chisels - I generally get into tight places with one or another of those. A sharp chisel makes quite a good detail scraper - as long as you're careful not to stab anything.
The edges will obviously need re-doing once you've finished scraping with them but they don't get badly blunted, really.
Agree. A single edge razor blade frequently work well. You can hold it a bit more easily with a pair of small vice-grips. And, they can be re-sharpened.
Aside: Be careful sanding/scraping old furniture (or any furniture). A lot of it has veneer which can be sanded through very easily. Then you've got bigger problems.
Oscillating multi tool with sanding attachment
Scrapers, many kinds and shapes, handsanding, I make sanding sticks and glue paper to them for whatever shape or grit I require , pointy instead of round power sanders, they make them...including the mentioned multitool
RAS -- radial arm saw , caught my attention!
BIG OOPS.....SHOULD HAVE BEEN ROS AND NOT RAS.
