HI,
I need to apply a water base urethane finsih on new vertical grain fir doors for my home. I’ve read many reviews which all point to either General Finishes or Hydrocoat products. I was interested if anyone had experience with these finishes and can offer any information or alternate products.
Thank you,
JM

I haven't used the General finish but have used Hydrocote extensively and with good results. How will you be applying the finish? After trying several of their finishes I ended up mostly using the SuperLac and a spray gun. On occasion I have brushed the finish onto small pieces with only fair results. If you are spraying, do some practicing with it first. It's quite different than spraying lacquer.

I have used both the General Finishes High Performance poly and Enduro pre cat urethane and liked both of those . I have also used the Hydrocoat quite a bit, and think it is a great value for its costs. I like the GF a little better, but either should work fine. Target is also well respected, though I haven't used their stuff recently.
