I am just starting in woodworking, is there any article or a book will guide me to which wood I use for a particular project.
For right now I would like to know what choices I have when I make templetes, and any of this choices is in home depot.
What kind of choices of wood I can use for building a cabinate for my woodworking toos. any of this choices in Home Depot.
Thank you

Hi Moataz,
Matching a particular wood to a specifiec project is a large subject - much larger than we room for here. There can be many things to consider when choosing a particular wood for a specific project. Below are just a few off the top of my head:
The type of wood used can vary within a project itself. For instance you may choose to use one particular wood for the overall project which is relatively soft and moves more than most with seasonal changes, but if you use drawers that run on wooden runners such as I do you would look for a wood that wears well and is more on the stable side (less expansion and contraction with changes in humidity)
Once the practical considerations are met then the choise becomes purley anesthetic - what looks good to you.
The definitive book on wood and it's properties is Bruce Hoadley's "Understanding Wood" -which I highly reccomend.
To the matter at hand - materail for templates. If the templates are for use on just one project - MDF would be fine ,but if you plan on using the templates many times you might conside one of the plywood products with many thin layers such as baltic birch. I am not sure what products Home Depot carries but they probably have MDF in stock.
For a tool cabinet any of the tried and true domstic hardwoods would be fine - maple - any of the oaks - cherry etc.
I would reccomend also that you check out your local area for a good lumber store that specializes in hardwwods- there you will often find a wide selection , good prices and a knowledgable people to help in your selection.
