Hi Polly There's a book called 'Whirligigs and Whammydoodles'. It should still be in print. Lots of plans, hints and instructions in it. Sorry, I don't have it in my collection of books, so I can't give you the name of the author or the publisher. Try a google search on the name.

Thank Sawdust Steve. It seems most of the world in particular the US is suffering extreme cold. I think those people in particular the 97yo who survived minus 6 0r 7 [I don,t know whether C or fahrenheit but still b/cold] and then one 13 days later in Iraq was incredible. They must have been good Iraqians. Was it Mr Bush who said how come all our oil finished up under foreign soil?. Enough politics. Very mild here at present about 72f at 4.30am and will get to about 25c later in the day. I am not going to be cruel like one respondent fro Mauie or something like that who gave a glowing description of the surf with bikini clad lassies lazing under the tropical sun to another US resident suffering.
Back to the post. Ian has provided me with the data to find the necessary books from local library but thanks for your welcome input into what is a great discussion group.

Frankston,
Victoria, Australia.
try for Whacky toys, whirligigs & whatchamacallits by Rodney Frost, the call number in the local library is 745.592/FRO
also search your library for books on wooden toy making and / or toys that move, many contain whirligig plans
edit: have done a library catalogue search
the La Trobe City Library has a copy of Wind toys that spin, sing, twirl by Cindy Burda call # 745.5
you can also try if your local library can do an inter library loan with the Casey Library for some of these:
hope this helps
