I need to make about 30 small white boards for use with dry erase markers…trying to go cheaper than buying a large white-board and cutting it down.
1/4″ melamine works OK, but is a little rough compared to the real thing. Any suggestions for a paint or clear-coat that might work? I’m thinking of conversion varnish…thanks for your ideas. —geoff

I can't tell you a brand, but I can safely say you're on the right track. There is a paint out there somewhere that turns into a dry erase surface. I've seen it in conference rooms - and they tint it to be the same color as everything else, so your room is yellow, you get a yellow wall that is a little more shiny, and you write right on it. I'll ask my paint rep tomorrow and see if I can't come up with more.

It sounds as though you are describing a two-pack high gloss marine varnish. I've seen a clear version used on floors.
rep says they don't carry (SW) but believes Pratt & Lambert does. "The child is grown / The dream is gone / And I have become / Comfortably numb " lyrics by Roger Waters
