I have a question about a stain I get on my fingers when scraping white oak. It seems to show up every time I use a scraper, not when sanding though. It first appears as a kind of purplish and then eventually turns nearly black. If anyone knows how to remove the stain or what is causing it please help me, I can’t get it off. Someone suggested that the tanin in the wood is causing it.

My guess would be the tannins also. Wear gloves when scraping, I have had some pretty good luck with Permatex Fast Orange hand cleaner but it too requires a lot of scrubbing. You might want to stay away from the garden for a while, I'm pretty sure its the tannins in Oak the keep things from growing around oak trees. Not sure if the ammount on your hands is sufficent to cause this or not. Jon Arno could certainly answer that question.
