I applied a 1# cut of shellac to the inside of a box made of white oak. It turned green. What caused this reaction? Moisture in the thinner(denatured alcohol), or what? Any help would be appreciated.

Mineral spirits is NOT the thinner for shellac.
I believe his post specifies that he thinned with alcohol.
Good heavens. I clearly read "mineral spirits". Sorry!!!Gretchen
I'm at a total loss. But, I'm curious... Did the Oak turn green or did the shellac turn green?
The wood is green now. Not being a chemist,I wonder if the alcohol has any metallic driers? Ive applied shellac to red oak before with no problems. thanks
