Looking forward to know who my friends and colleages are.

PMM, we have a personal information section that can be used for this purpose. You can even add pictures if inclined. Just click on the user ID to see the info.
I noticed that you have not entered any personal information. It seems that most people add little if any information at all. Some of us are more open than others I guess.
Anyway, we already have a tool but are just not using it.

Where in Mass?
I'm an almost 60 year old architect in NYC who spends weekends in the Berkshires making sawdust. Wife of 32 years. 2 daughters. 1 Son-in-law. 1 Granddaughter (7 months).
Been building furniture for the family for about 15 years. Did 2 sets of kitchen cabinets in the last two years. That was fun.
For those who are interested. Berkshire Products in Sheffield, Mass has some of the best wood I've ever seen. Recently bought 3 Bubinga slabs. 1 @ 53" wide by 8' long and 2 @ 26" wide by 11' long. expensive but beautiful.
No, I don't get a commission.

The Berkshires are beautiful but we are not neighbors. I live in Falmouth on Cape Cod. God's country. 5 Atlantic beaches within 5 minutes of my house. Only one mall. Not outrageously commercial. We can go to Boston for that. I do wish we had a good wood supplier. Nearest one is an hour away and no great shakes.

I am a CFO of a financial services company here in Central MN. 48 yrs. old, with a wonderful wife and a handful of a four year-old. Love working with wood, although I am quite new to it. Because tax season is approaching, (I prepare taxes for our clients) I won't have much time in the next few months to indulge in my hobby. But, when April 15 is past, I will be ordering a new table saw and making a pile of sawdust.
BTW-I used to live in East Taunton. Although Minnesota is really God's country, I have been to Falmouth and the Cape and agree it is beautiful.
Have a wonderful new year!
In addition to my earlier post, I would be interested to know how many ladies indulge in our hobby. Ladies, where are you?
Paul here, 36, living in Raynham Massachussetts. 2 sons 2, 5 and 14 yo daughter. Love woodworking when I can. Son (5)loves being in the shop learning. Setting up shop in 11'X16' shop in garage. Built a 26'X36' addition with my lovely wife. Learned from my neighbor (89) and slowwly buying his tools as he offers them.

pmmatty,
Hi. Good to meet you. There was a thread a short while ago where the original post asked where people were from. It was a very long and interesting thread. There are folks from all over the world. Many of them posted info like you requested. As someone pointed out, Knots has a place to put a profile of each member. Some folks put more info there than others. Click on a blue 9619 and you'll see a photo of me in my shop next to a tenoning jig that I just made.
I am 63, with three grown, educated, married and working children. Have spent most of my career at NASA. Spent many years as a Human Factors psychologist, but moved into management a while back.
I have been woodworking for close to 40 years. I do carving and painting as well. Mostly I do case pieces. All of my work goes to my family at a very attractive price. I provide all of the labor and materials, and they haul it away when it is finished. I live in Northern Virginia, about 18 miles from Washington, DC. I went to high school in Springfield, MA.
Welcome to Knots.. Its a great place.
Happy New Year.
Mel
Measure your output in smiles per board foot.
PMM/All: I'm a 57 year old retired electrician for the local municipal water works. Separated from wife but she lives next door as does our son of 29 years and his long term girl friend. We all share a tri-plex property. I've only 4 years into woodworking but it goes very slow as I can only stay on my feet for an hour or two here and there. I had a bit of a leg up learning W.W., or so I think, having worked with shop safety, blueprints, measurements, layout, machinery, job planning etc. in my working life. Also have been a life long tool nut and woodworking has been such a boost to that part of my life and subsequently a drain on my bank account. I do try to use them all and analyse what goes right and wrong. Have a shelf full of W.W. books to refer to and have been reading & saving FWW for three years. Knots and you all have been another source of information and help. MacBeath hardwoods is right here in town (Berkeley California) but have bought lumber and tools on the internet with mostly good results. My shop is a little odd in that my "big" machines (band saw, jointer, planer) and lumber rack are in one building and the table saw and all the rest in a beat up old detached garage. All my work areas have benefited from my electrical skill and have good lighting and power.
There that was fun, I've wanted to lay out my details and share them fellow Knot heads.
Happy New Year to all, Duke Masters

Hello my name is Andy.
<Chorus replies -"Hi, Andy.">
I make my living as a stagehand in NYC. I will be 39 tomorrow. Married, 10 years (still to my first wife), I knew it was going to be her before we had even met. We have a 7 year old daughter and a 3 year old son, and 3 grandkids. I am a cancer survivor of 5 months and can't wait to get back in the shop.
My shop space is located in the basement, too many tools <yeah, right>, not enough space. I have been working wood for 20 some years and would love to someday make a living working wood, but am too rooted in the reallity of food and clothes and health insurance to ever make that switch.
I prefer to mill my own lumber from logs I collect.
Most of my woodworking is for 'around the house' type projects but I do a few outside jobs ocasionally.
Andy
Said least is often said best,
but said best is often said least.
Andy,
Congrats on beating the big C!!!! I hope things keep going in the right direction for you. Obviously you beating the cancer is a good thing, is there any advice you can give us that the rest of us may take for granted?
Best,
Jeff
