I have a hankerin’ for a Stanley hardboard plane. Don’t ask why, I just do! Thing is, the only ones that show up on eBay are in either England or Australia. What gives? The number is Stanley 735, I notice it’s not on Patrick’s Blood and Gore site. Was it only a European model??

forestgirl,
So as not to confuse the auto officionados, in the US the Stanley 735 refers to a Stanley Steamer automobile!?
You're gonna have a hard time planin hardboard with one 'o them cars if ya don't first take the wheels off!

Jamie,
Here's a Record 730 for interest. Not mine-saw it at a junk place some time ago. The seller did not know what it was.....Probably still there.Philip Marcou

A brief search seems to indicate the cutters are hard to come by. Safe to assume they're not just a simple single-edge razor blade?forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Philip,
That is a smashing plane! Is that one of your new models? I especially love how you did all the distressing. Makes the plane look 50 years old and well used. I would have left the african blackwood tote alone, though.
So, I have to ask, how much is this option on one of your S20's?

(completely joking, of course - couldn't pass up the chance to do a bit of ribbing)
;)
Do America a favor and destroy every one of the above three models you may encounter....
Patrick carries a lot of weight on this and other forums. This might be why you can't find one here :-)

Too funny!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
J, I don't know about #735 but the # 193 a&b, 194, 195 gets
"GREAT" coverage by Patrick. He realy gets off on these. You may want to reconsider getting one. Paddy
edit- I just thought to look in "Planecraft" and it shows the #730-735 . They are Record planes which is why Patrick doesen't mention them. pfh
BTW, do ya really want to slit and bevel masonite by hand??
Edited 6/7/2007 9:26 am ET by PADDYDAHAT
Hiya, Paddy. Yep, Patrick's hatred of the fiberboard planes is hysterically funny! As to slitting Masonite by hand -- when I do need to cut some (for a template, for instance) I take it off a full sheet for economic reasons. I have alot of trouble using a utility knife, and don't like to wrestle a full sheet on the table saw. Thought one of these much-maligned planes might be easier on my hand. Might cost more than the convenience is worth though.
At least I know I could get parts from Patrick, LOL.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
J, if you have almost any combination plane ala #45 or 55 types, the on board slitter works marvelously and even has it's own depth stop so you can half slit from both sides. Enjoy, Paddy
He probably upchucked when he saw this auction!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
