I have an unusual question. I am a hobbist and have constructed a dining table, the two main section of which are 45″ x 48″, I am looking for a cabinet shop in the San Francisco Bay area with a stationary sander large enough to sand that. Can you refer me to one? e-mail me at [email protected]
Thank you,
Dan Boykin

Check out Mount Storm in Windsor, Ca. Just across the GG and up the road about 60mi, (past Santa Rosa but not too far). They do some custom millwork and may have a machine that size. Here's a link to their website:

Dan,
I built a large oak butcherblock table (50" x 80") where I used bisquits to line up the individual strips. I made it in two sections because, like you, I couldn't find a shop with a belt sander wide enough. I did fine one with a 36" belt, so I made it in two sections, each about 25" wide and sanded them individually to thickness, then jointed and bisquited the two together. A great fit, and inexpensive ($60). There is absolutely no indication of where the middle joint is. This may be your best solution.
Cheers,
Charles
