I’m in the market for a wide belt sander. Price range is 5 to 7k and 24″ is sufficient. Has anyone out there tested or compared these things? Any recommendations?

Just picked up a new Timesavers 37" Speedsander (single head widebelt) for $7000. From A.T.Mitchel in Ontario, Calif. This was the worst purchasel I have every had to deal with. I like the machine, but what a headache trying to get it delivered. If you are in the Portland/Seattle area, try Barbo Machinery or another local dealer in your area. I wouldn't recommend anything less than 37", it is too limiting
Unless you really see a constant need for this type of machine, I suggest you try and find a local outfit that does contract sanding. Just a single belt runs from $28-$50
There are two cabinet shops up the road from me that have 37" machines available for hire. The problem is even in a small production shop (kitchen, bath cabinets) the need is fairly regular. Hence my decision to buy something I could use on demand.
I started out with a Delta 18-36 but immediately found it to be under powered and it burned the material if I took to big of a bite.
I then considered some of the double drum sanders (extrema, oliver, general and leneave-northstate) but I don't want to make a purchase and then find out it doesn't do the job.
I'd like to see a balanced sorce of information about widebelt sanders. As of yet I haven't seen any publication review them. The Ex-Factory web site has some used and new sanders for sale and includes a large amount of factory literature on the machines but I could use an unbiased viewpoint.
The Speedsander is of interest to me -- its a little bit of a stretch financially but if it performes well I'd consider it.
My personal opinion of ExFactory is not to good. They use other sites to find machinery for sale and then try to broker it. They never looked at my machine. Any one can get manufacturers' literature, but you need to use it, especially when buying used equiptment. I really don't know if they would have an accurate knowledge of the machines. I had a 21 spindle horz/vert boring machine that I tried to sell before moving to Western Wash. They contacterd me and asked my price and then listed it on thier site for 25% more(i think). Any way, I still have it.
I tried this one at the Woodworking show in Anaheim last summer.
I purcased the 10hp/3ph and since I'm in the process of building a 1725sqfthouse and 1950 sqft shop, It'll be 3-4 months before this machine is up and running. Untill then, it justs sit there, patiently waiting
I have a SCMI MiniMax 25 x 60 wide belt. Made in Italy, 12 hp. 3 phase. Paid about 7 grand ten years ago, Love it, great workmanship, money well spent. Check out the Laguna line of sanders they may still be in the price range you are looking for.
