I will try to keep this as short as I can . Recently I was told of a neighbor down my street who lost her husband (the big “C”) and had a shop full of tools and no clue how to deal with them. After procrastinating for a month + I stopped by to see if can help. What a shock!
With out a doubt he was a MASTER bowl turner as there was 30 to 40 huge rough finished bowl on shelves in the shop. The finished pieces belong on the back cover of FWW or a museum. You know, large bowls, blond/highly figured/ragged edged/ragged perforations in the sides and the flat areas polished like gold. These are art.
I was more affected as I had lost SHMBO in ’92, same cause. I have every hand tool any living person could expect and the usual stationary types so I don’t need the tools and I will advise her on their value but I need help to id four big tools.
1-Harrison Union Graduate bowl lathe (uk) with the biggest Dayton motor I have ever seen. This is the most elusive and unknown. It is all cast and you and two helpers would not put this in the back of my Ford-150. It looks like pac-man with a long and a short arm. The long arm (@18″) is bolted on.
2/3-yellow mustard/gold colored sheet metal cabs, a spindle shaper 1″ with a huge cast iron top. Too heavy for us to move to see the tags. A 6X48 belt 12″ disk all cast top. Same problem. You see I am 63 and she is only 5’2″ but a charming lady.
4-A delta 10″ unisaw mod 34 802 and ser 85054355 tube type rails . I have checked the wizard that has listed all the ser# but found nada.
The largest power plug in the shop is a ground pin/vertical flat blade with a horizontal flat blade. I think that this is 110 vac. 30amps ? for the four big guys.
I told her that I would reach out to you and my Long Island woodworker friends to focus on these big guys, The delta 14″bandsaw, 17″ floor drill press, multiple red tool chests of sockets/turning tools and scribes, calipers etc. we could deal with ourselves.
I am very new to this site and very much like what I have seen. I wish I had known of you earlier and I wouldn’t have a couple of turkeys that I have acquired or not spent so much time beating a decision for serious purchase to death. Thanks, Pat,

Why not post some pics? You might find some info at Oldwoodworking machines.com or at lathes.co.uk Hope this helps.
Thanks for the leads. I will try for some pics this weekend.Pat
Here is a link to the American Association of Woodturners. The members on that forum can help you find a new home for that lathe.

New ones are available from Greg Jensen, 7521 Green Valley Drive, Parma, Ohio 44134 Cell 440-750-7596 Home 440-842-0446 Email: [email protected]
He should be able to give you more info and might (speculating on my part) broker a customer for you.
Many thanks. I never thought to ask her if he was a member of a turners group, duh. I will see her over the weekend to take some pics and inventory the numerous (very old, long and very thick) turners tools. Pat

Many thanks, it is the second one with the 16" swan neck. Now I have to see my local turners to see what it's worth.(this will not ship well) This guy turned out (no pun intended) glorious pieces. It breaks my heart that I didn't know that he was there over the last 25 years. Pat
