I checked Woodweb.com first and couldn’t find what I wanted. So I know this is the next best place to inquire
Any value in willow? Neighbor just chopped down an old will about 4′-5′ accross at the base.

J,
If you don't want it I'll take it. I think it looks great and have been searching for some. I live about 60 miles north of you.

Sorry, it's not mine to give away. Neighbor hired a guy to cut it down. He's taking it with him when he's done, but I was going to see if I could get a big chunk first.
Does willow have a resale value? ie. woodworking, firewood?
She paid a grand to have it removed and I think she got suckered somehow. “The richest genius, like the most fertile soil, when uncultivated, shoots up into the rankest weeds..” – Hume
Not much firewood value. Willow is about as light as spruce. It's also weak, and not used much in woodworking, although it does make a nice bowl turning wood. The heartwood is usually a light reddish brown.
Willow does one thing very well - ground water absorption. Two things, if you count dropping branches as a bonus. As firewood, it just doesn't give up enough BTU's to be worthwhile. I do wonder what it would be like as a veneer or non-structural wood component. And turnings sound interesting...
