We have two computers in our house, one with Windows 98, one with XP. I mainly use the “98” computer. When I do use the “XP” unit and log on to this site using the same password and user name, I don’t get the same options in the “show discussions…” menu as I do on the 98. The 98 gives me a whole list – unread, all, today, of high interest, with polls, and so on. The XP unit only shows “all”, “2 days back”, and “today”. The problem is that when I use Windows XP, I can’t read just the unread messages, I have to read them all. Same goes for the “high interest” threads, 98 shows the little thumbs up sign, XP does not. The cookie settings are the same on both computers.
Has anyone else had similar problems?
Thanks in advance.

I use both systems too, I have never noticed that issue, but I may just not be paying attention. I'll check, but I'm thinking options are the same on both computers.
The Knots navigation and the display of icons and pop up menus are based on the intensive use of JavaScript. Since Javascript can be a way to hijack a machine there are aggressive security policiies set in the browser. I suspect that the 98 machine has different settings for script that the XP machine.
I'm assuming that you use the same browser on both machines (IE 6). You should compare the setting between the two. Goto the Tools, Internet Options on both machines. Goto the security tab. Select Internet in the horizontal list of zones/icons. Then select Custom in the lower part of the dialog box. In the list of options in the next box scroll down and compare the Script settings. You may well find on the XP machine that Scripting is disabled. If so enable it. You can be paranoid and make the setting applicable to just the Knots site.
If you have different versions of the browsers on the machines - you'll need to experiment a little. You can always use the default settings button on the Security Tab to reset the levels and restart the experiment.
Guess why I switched to use Mozilla Firefox.<Grin>.

Tim:Thanks for the information. We use Mozilla on both machines. I was not aware of the JavaScript issue, I'll look closer into the settings on both machines. Thanks again.
Pleasure....If you are using Mozilla then there is just one option to change under Tools, Options, Web Features, JavaScript. If that doesn't work - it's beyond me.Good luckTimTim Lawson

You might also want to check your cookies - one machine might be allowing, the other denying...ALso, are you trying to log into Knots at the same time on both machines? I move from a win2k and an xp machine with no difference in appearanceMark
Measure it with a micrometer, mark it with chalk, cut it with an ax.
All good points. I run Win 2000, mostly for the security features. In addition to antivirus software, I'd recommend anti spyware. Ad-Aware and Ad-Watch run in real time and might help to prevent spyware/hijacking. The cost is modest (~$30 US).

Nope. Transitioned to XP Pro from W982ed. May make a difference that I'm using Firefox as a browser.
Regards,
I'm using the xp version and after I log in I can see the full menu, but not until. I get the same smaller version you see when not logged on.....
If you aren't one of the one's I'm talking about, you shouldn't have any complaints....
