I’m looking for a new challange so I thought making a 50 gallon wine barrel would be challanging and fun. Has anyone come across a book or plan that I could use to get me started in the right direction.
I would appreciate any advise on my new venture.
Thanks

You picked a good challenge, Sean. In addition to your common woodworking tools you'll be needing the following: Dowelling Stock, Side-axe, Bick Iron, Round Stave, Bung-hole Borer, Chive, Topping Plane, Hammer, Flagging Iron, Driver, Adze, Diagonals, Croze, Inside Shave, Swift, Downright, Buzz, Heading Knife, Jigger and hollowing Knife. You may want to start by making a pin, firkin or a kilderkin before tackling something that needs a windlass. Heh, heh!
The trade of the cooper takes many years to learn and constant practice to keep the skills honed. It's easier if the barrel doesn't have to be water tight! Do a search for "coopering" or "coopers trade". There is a lot of info.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
I usually run up to central MO and pick one up. A lot faster and cheaper.
