I can only say Jatoba is very nice wood with either contrasing wood. Jatoba looks nothing like Cherry..
I have worked with Sapele for my two poster beds. Is IS a wonderful wood to work with.
Cherry is very expensive in my neck of the woods.. I can get Sapele at 1/3 the cost!
And then again, Lacewood is very strong and a medium to dark brown color/colour? I think of quarter sawn white oak that is dark brown to begin with. I have used alot of Lacewood and none I have purchased had any grain like any other wood I have used before. And it bends very easy to make some sort of a curve with laminated objects.
well i live in new england and for me cherry is like 10 a bf but i think im just gona use the maple and cherry because its easier to comeby where i am
Cherry with Black Walnut accents is sweet blend .
I have seen White Maple mixed with Cherry veneer panels and solids as well it all looks good .
When you are building for yourself don't be limited by only what you have seen or have done , there are no rules when it comes to originality , you can't go wrong especially if you are pleased with your works .
Some will steer you away from the more bolder blends of woods , mainly because it makes them feel uncomfortable and may be out of their comfort zone .
Imho let your creative juices flow , you never know .
My boss I apprenticed for used to tell me don't worry about making a mistake , it is just a piece of wood he said .
My favorites are QSWO and Black Walnut and Jatoba mixed with White Oak was very beautiful and more subdued very classy looking .
regards dusty, who has mixed a bunch lately
I've been disappointed using
I've been disappointed using walnut and cherry together for contrast as the cherry darkens and the walnut lightens with age and the contrast diminishes. Paduk can also be disappointing as it start that nice red orange and turns muddy brown. Unless someone knows how to stop the colors from changing.
