Last night it rained despite the weatherman’s assurrance of a dry nocturnal climate…in the back of my truck were a variety of woods..the cedar did fine and the mahogany, perhaps because it was covered by other woods was equally unaffected…however, the top piece of 1x12x8′ clear pine destined to become a small clothes dresser for my granddaughter was severely warped in a U shape..I put it on a shelf with several other boards atop it …is there any other tricks to flattening it or do I need to consider some serious design changes?

Neil,
I hope you stickered both sides of the warped board. It needs air flow on both sides if you hope to save it.

it's so warped that it's getting airflow anyway but I'll go ahead and sticker it...would it help to rewet it, then sticker it?

Neil,
I would vote for stickering it and either applying weight on top or strap it down if you can and leave it that way for a while. I'd get another piece for the dresser unless you can wait for the cupped board to straighten out, which it may not complete.
I've not had much luck wetting boards to straighten them. Also this process could cause sticker staining which can create a whole new problem.
Just my 2¢.

Hi Neil ,
About the only thing I can think to suggest is to turn the board the opposite side up and dampen that side .
If you get lucky it may cause the board to move back the other direction , how much it will move is unpredictable .
good luck dusty
The side that was up and exposed to the rain absorbed extra moisture and expanded (basic idea), so you need to get it dried in relationship to the concave side of the board. If it doesn't get flat by simply stickering it and letting it dry out, try laying the concave side down in the grass. Weight, clamping, all that kind of force isn't the answer, IMHO. It's a moisture imbalance problem.
I don't know Neil , a curvaceous little dresser is starting to sound doable .

Yeah, and I thought I was lightyears away from bending wood to
create non linear furniture forms...look out David Marks!
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. Now to figure out which one to try(first).

Do nothing, wait for it to stabilize. Art
art, Right. If it was stable before, the "extra" new moisture will leave if the board is properly left to dry again (stickered flat) , and it will return to its previous stable condition. But if it really wasn't stable to begin . . .
