Hi,
Simple ash cabinet doors with 18ga nail holes. I’ll use Minwax Polyshades, color and PU in one. Minwax sells a non hardening matching color putty that I’ve used after the finish on darker woods to good effect but this is a pretty light wood going to a honey stain. I’m thinking of some sort of light colored hardening type filler that will accept the stain/pu but am drawing a blank before I head to the store..
It would be easier to use the hardening filler and sand it all down at once instead of coming in later and being more meticulous with the non hardening putty.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
BroLuke

Non-hardening putty is just that- non-hardening. I'd suggest filling and sanding before finishing to achieve a durable product.

You're OK for now, but I would suggest that you explore shellac sticks that are applied with a hot knife. These come in a variety of colors, they are hard, accept all finishes, and with practice are fairly easy to use. One can make nail holes seem to disappear. In use you would stain and finish the first coat. Then fill/sand smooth. Then finish top coats. The advantage to this is you can match the stained/finished wood color almost exact.
