Any suggestions for filling small screw holes in exterior deck wood. There will be no finish on top of it and I would like something waterproof and durable. Will standard wood putty work? Epoxy tends to dry out and chip away if not protected by varnish. What about spar varnish thickened with saw dust?

Sam,
I doubt if any kind of filler would hold up well under the abuse that a deck gets. The classy way to cover screws in a situation like this is to use wood plugs.
