Has anyone tried to make (or sucessfully made) a wooden container for a pair of reading glasses?
I’m thinking of a piece of nice wood, sawn apart and reglued to create the cavity (and the illusion of a solid piece). An oval cross-section. Top attached. No larger (well, not much larger) than a standard glasses case.
Hinging the top is a design challence (it is for me, mate!). A slip-on top is easier, but I don’t want it to be in two pieces.
Any clues?

Finger joint and drill for a brass pin to create a hinge Use light and dark wood for contrast.

If the url below doesn't work, search for "miniature barrel hinges" at woodcraft.com. A local store for you might be a different matter... :)

Not to change the subject, but be sure to line the inside with felt or velvet or something soft. You probaly already got this covered, but just in case you got side-tracked with all the outer details.
Luck...

Yeah, thanks. I've got some leather I can use.
It's not a big deal project ... but I'm a recreational woodworker, so why not!?
I like solving design problems, and am enjoying doing little stuff. I've tried very small containers in the past and never been very sucessful.
Part of what brought this on is a series of small jewellery boxes that I've just completed - with ring trays and other inserts. Over the years I've made 100s (and once did it commercially) and have a standard approach that works well. But want to itroduce some variety.
