In the late 60’s or 70’s, I read an article about a guy that made a wood globe and stand. His table saw jig cut wood into melon slice shapes. Each curved eade of the “melon segments” was also cut at an angle, like cooper construction.
Does anyone know where I can find the magazine and article an you suggest search ideas.

It is also in "Fine Woodworking On, Things to Make ".
Sometime last year there was a poster here on Knots that made a BIG one with pics. I think he also may have had in-progress pics of how it was made too. Try doing a search. It was a pretty incredible job from what I remember.
If you build it he will come.

Too bad it's read-only... I'd be awfully curious if he got any pictures after it was carved and finished! My goal is for my work to outlast me. Expect my joinery to get simpler as time goes by.
The e-mail button on his profile appears to still work.
