Will wood preservatives such as penetrating epoxy or Minwax wood hardener minimize wood movement? Is it advisable to use them to minimize wood movement in new pieces?

The penetrating wood hardeners only penetrate punky, rotted wood. On sound wood they will act like an ordinary finish, primarily staying on the surface and having no appreciable effect on wood movement except to slow down the gain or loss in moisture. Given enough time, a month or two of wet or dry conditions, and the wood will move about as much as if it had no finish at all.
