Hi All,
I am putting together a chart that gives a relative ranking of woods by hardness, color, common and scientific names, and approximate price per BF. I’d just like to hear opinions about the best general measure of wood hardness. I’ve seen the following stats used:
– Specific Gravity (as used by R. Bruce Hoadley in “Understanding Wood”)
– The Janka Hardness Test
– The Brinell Factor
Again, I am talking about relative hardness — the ability to determine where different woods compare to one another.

I think you'll find that info already published. It's on the Internet somewhere as a PDF file. See below. Each chapter of the book is a different PDF file.

Thanks for the link. That does help. There are several species not listed in that document, but it offers great information for domestics.
