Just received an email from Popular Woodworking about this site. Yale University has made all the images form “Hough’s American Trees” available on line. (Free) Shows several views of about 275 American species. No text, but I prefer pictures anyway.

Thanks Jeff, this is a definite bookmarker.
Any know of a site where I can identify standing timber. I have some trees on my lot that are over 50ft and produce 1/4" a dark purple berry that have a large seed in them. I am in Michigan. Someone told me that they are a cherry. Any help would be appreciated.

Plastics pay the bills, Woodworking keeps me sane!
Joe,
Sounds like cherry. Contact your county extension agent and he'll put you in touch with someone who can look at them.
