Hello, I joined just to try to ID some wood I have on a fishing net that was made for me about 22 years ago. Unfortunately the guy who made it for me passed away so I can’t ask him. So I am trying to figure out what just the outer edge wood is. I was told it was not stained only lacquered. It has some iridescent type circles/patterns in it and its kinda orange. Thank you in advance. Bryce

I'm no expert but it looks like bamboo to me.
Mike
Could be ossage orange.
I know its not bamboo...I actually think its Lacewood based on Google searches but I am not expert either.
I can't imagine using lacewood for a fishing net. Those could be ray flecks from something quartersawn. White oak, maybe?
I think it may be lacewood, otherwise known as Australian Northern Silky Oak (the Southern species is much lighter in color). I think it would be perfect for a fishing net because it's rot resistant.
