Hello,
I enjoy wood turning and it is time to put my old Craftsman lathe to rest and purchase a new one. This is where I need your help, what would you recommend? I am currently wanting to turn larger bowls and platters but time and time again I will need 32″ between centers. Given that I need 32″ between centers I have ruled out the custom bowl turner’s lathe.
I have just started my search and these are the lathes that have caught my attention. the Powermatic 135200, the Delta “?” has a similar lathe the model # has slipped my mind, Wood Teck., and the Oneway lathe. What do you think?
Thanks – MSD

I have the NOVA 3000 and love it. You can buy extentions to suit the center distance you want. You can also get what is called an "outrigger" to let you turn up to 32" diameter stuff.
I saw the listing on the new Wood Tek. The literature, of course, makes it look very fine indeed. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience working on this new machine. It seems to be able to be configured for just about any turner's needs.
As far as the Oneway lathe goes it is one high tech piece of equipment. I have only seen a catalog for this lathe and it seems very advanced and complicated. Does anyone out there own one & give me some personal info.
Thanks - MSD
Ps so far I think I am going with the Powermatic. Are there any WW out there who can tell me about it?
can't tell you about powermatic, but have you looked at general lathes? a model 160 would fit your needs, and i really liked the one that i used. i'm hoping to get one myself sometime soon.
Andrew,
If you live in the Bay Area you might be interested in the lathes that are listed on the bulletin board at Japan Woodworker. Good luck in your lathe search - MSD
