Please assist
I live in South Africa and am looking for a used Yates J-170 model lathe (or similar type/era) in good or alternatively in “reconditionable” condition.
I have taken up my hobby of woodworking once again after many years and as a result I am looking to purchase a suitable (financially and size) lathe in order to complete the equipping of my woodworking shop.
In light of this I was hoping if you could please help by forwarding my request to all your members of staff or client in the hope that someone would know where I could get my hands on one of these machines.
Alternatively please let me know costs of advertising this in the appropriate place
Would appreciate your help greatly
Regards

If you scroll down in the topic index, there is a "Wanted" section on Knots, as well as a "For Sale" section.
My guess, however, is that most of the folks here are in the U.S., Canada, or Europe. Shipping to South Africa might be problematic due to the cost of crating properly and freight costs. Good luck with your quest.
JUst be aware that many US sellers are likely to be quite picky about means of payment. There have been plenty of scammer's with various ploys to have payment "fall through", especially for goods to be shipped overseas. Because of them it is likely that the motto will be "Cash is King".
Hi Ralph
Yes I know that some are sticky about payment but I have found that mainly in those people that know nothing about the outside world beyond their own state. South Africa, which is the very southern part of the whole of Africa, is actually the most developed in all of Africa and as such has access to many ot the first world international payment methods, i,e. PayPal, all credit cards etc etc.
In the end the buyer is ultimately the one to satisfy himself that he has received his money before agreeing to ship the item bought. Unless that buyer is that stupid to ship goods before actually been paid, the risk to any seller is the same as selling to that cash buyer in the USA, who could in fact pass on fake dollar bills if you get my meaning. I deal a lot with USA hunters who come hunting on my farm and they tell me how stupid some Americans are in getting scamed by people in some parts of Africa, i.e. Nigeria which is in the North of Africa despite the fact that this is advertised all over the western world. The relationship would be like dealing with someone living in the high crime parts of LA in comparison to someone in Washington, one just need to be more cautious, quite simple.
Have purchased a lot worldwide and must say I dont normally have problems with my purchases as a norm because people normally follow a set way of doing things, and in the case where the seller feels negatiive about wantng to sell their goods to me in South Africa, frankly I just thank them and move on as I dont take fools easly, if you know what I mean.
Thank you for your advise my friend and hope to talk again soon sometime.
Rgds
Lucio
