Does anyone know of a reference for what the seasonal expansion and contraction is for individual species of wood?
1 – measure the board twice, 2 – cut it once, 3 – measure the space where it is supposed to go 4 – get a new board and go back to step 1

Get R. Bruce Hoadley's "Understanding Wood" published by Taunton a long time ago. Still a great resource for all questions of wood technology, including expansion factors for different species.
